Este ensaio explora temáticas existentes no texto visual de Tudo sobre minha
mãe, de Pedro Almodóvar e The Mother (2003) de Roger Michell, através de uma leitura
semiótica das imagens e do (inter)intradiscurso das protagonistas. Em seguida, examina-se
a construção do sujeito feminino maternal no filme de Almodóvar em analogia com o de
Michell, com a finalidade de verificar convenções sociais sobre o sujeito feminino e
identificar estereótipos e não-estereótipos da maternidade na cultura contemporânea.
This paper explores the themes that exist in the film Todo sobre mi madre of
Pedro Almodóvar (1999) and The Mother (2003) de Roger Michell, throughout a semiotic
reading of the images and the discourses of the protagonists characters, focusing on the
construction of both maternal and feminine roles, with the intent to verify and question
social conventions about the feminine universe and to identify stereotypes, also not
stereotypes of images about the maternity in our culture.
