Este artigo examina, com base na técnica de retrato de linguagem (NEUMANN, 1991; KRUMM & JENKINS 2001; BUSCH, 2012), o repertório lin-guístico e a vivência de imigrantes brasileiros na Alemanha. Especificamente, o objetivo principal deste artigo é analisar a experiência vivida da lingua-gem no meio urbano e transcultural da cidade alemã de Düsseldorf, além de discutir a correlação entre processo migratório, identidade e mudança de práticas linguísticas em ambiente marcado pela mobilidade global, pelo contato entre línguas e entre variedades linguísticas. Utilizando a abordagem do retrato de linguagem como base para um estudo empírico e qualitativo, o presente artigo pretende contribuir para as discussões sobre o repertório linguístico e a transculturalidade. Assim, busca examinar especificamente quão relevante é a língua para os imigrantes, dentro e através de experiências em que a bagagem linguística se faz necessária no processo de reconstrução individual, em um novo país.
Based on the language portrait technique (NEUMANN 1991; KRUMM & JENKINS 2001; BUSCH 2012), this article explores the linguistic repertoire and lived experience of Brazilian immigrants in Germany. Our central aim is to analyse the lived experience of linguistic interaction in the urban and intercultural environment of the German city of Düsseldorf. We will look at the connections between migration processes, identity and changing language practices in an environment characterised by global mobility and language contact, affecting not only historical languages but also their varieties. Using the language portrait approach as the basis for an empirical and qualitative study, this paper aims to contribute to the discussion on language repertoires and transculturality. It also aims to explore the significance of language for immigrants in and through experiences where linguistic baggage enters the process of identity (re)construction in a new country.
