O presente artigo analisa a atuação da Alfândega do Rio de Janeiro como parte integrante da dinâmica polÃtico-administrativa da cidade no âmbito império ultramarino português nas primeiras décadas do século XVIII. Os homens de negócios que arremataram o contrato da dÃzima da Alfândega e suas redes de relações entre diversos agentes revelam uma mobilidade administrativa baseada numa imbricada negociação com a Coroa. O Rio de Janeiro, por intermédio da Alfândega, corrobora essa multifacetada teia de relações com as outras partes do império português. Este artigo discute alguns destes elementos abordando as redes de relações, os conflitos e as negociações entre os conquistadores e a Coroa.
This article examines the role of Customs in Rio de Janeiro as part of the dynamic
political and administrative city under Portuguese overseas empire in the first decades of the
eighteenth century. The men of business who bought the contract of duty of Customs and
their networks of relationships between various actors reveal an administrative change based
on a negotiation with the Crown. The Rio de Janeiro, through the Customs, shows a structure
of relationships with other parts of the Portuguese empire. This article discusses some of these
elements addressing the networks of relationships, conflicts and negotiations between the
conquerors and the Crown.
