This paper presents a consideration about ideological manipulation exerted by the
Cultural Industry on the masses. Such concept was coined by Adorno and Horkheimer, in
Dialectic of the Clarification, 1947. For the Frankfurtians, cultural industry is an ideological
manipulative mechanism, that implant values and ideals through the information that it
conveys , serving as a decoy to the masses, manipulating them, though in an imperceptible
way to the same ones. Through the cultural industry, the thing in itself is not given: instead, there are aggregate images to the consumption of determined items, a system of signals that
manipulates the consciences. Therefore, the spirit of the cultural industry is ideology, strategy
for domination. Its products and information keep under control the motivations, the desires
and the efforts. Therefore, the individuals, reduced in mass to consumers, are tangled in a
continuous permanent deceit. Adorno (2000) understands that the educative process has that
to oppose itself to the instruments of this existing order. The author reflects on an education,
that would occur in all the instances of life, and that would be emancipative, contrary to the
barbarizing semi-formation.
