A new and efficient synthesis of 2H-indazolo[2,1-b]phthalazine-
1,6,11(13H)-trione derivatives from the three-component condensation reaction of
phthalhydrazide, dimedone, and aromatic aldehydes using alum [KAl(SO4)2.12H2O] as
catalyst was performed in aqueous media. The features of this procedure are mild
reaction conditions, good to excellent yields, short reaction times and operational
simplicity.
