. In this article, we shall call ‘spirituality of the desert’ the experience that urges the human
being to leave the safety and comfort of the known world in order to follow the inner voice that leads them to the encounter with the divine. This decision involves very great risks and uncertainties, because in the desert there is only silence and solitude and nothing guarantees success in the search of God. However, going through the desert offers, to those who take the risk, the most precious gifts that a human being can aspire: freedom and peace. In this regard and as a provisional essay of a ‘mystic phenomenology of the desert’, the main objective will be aimed at deepening the theological and mystical reflections on the desert done by an author such as Origen of Alexandria. The choice has been based on the immense influence this great theologian has had in the history of Western mysticism. The analysis of the significance of the desert in the theology of Origen, was held in his beautiful homilies on Exodus. This article will show how this theological line has full validity for the contemporary world.

En este artículo se denominará ‘espiritualidad del desierto’, a la experiencia que insta a los
seres humanos a abandonar la seguridad y la comodidad del mundo conocido, para seguir la voz interior
que los lleva al encuentro con lo divino. Esta decisión implica peligros e incertidumbres muy grandes, ya que en el desierto sólo hay silencio y soledad y nada asegura el éxito al buscador de Dios. Sin embargo el paso por el desierto, le ofrece a quien es capaz de arriesgarse los dones más preciados a los que puede aspirar un ser humano: la libertad y la paz. En este sentido y a modo de ensayo provisional de una ‘fenomenología mística del desierto’, el objetivo principal estará dirigido a profundizar en las reflexiones teológicas y místicas que sobre el desierto ha realizado un autor como Orígenes de Alejandría. La elección se ha fundamentado en la inmensa influencia que este gran teólogo ha tenido en toda la historia de la mística occidental. El análisis acerca de la significación del desierto en la teología de Orígenes, se realizará en sus bellas homilías sobre el Éxodo. Se mostrará cómo esta línea teológica tiene total vigencia para el mundo contemporáneo.
