O artigo aborda a noção de significado na doutrina de C. S. Peirce. Com essa abordagem, procuramos mostrar que o significado, para Peirce, enquanto uma noção que toma como base a concepção triádica de signo, não se coaduna com as doutrinas tidas como nominalistas, como a denotativa e a behaviorista: é eminentemente realista. Uma noção realista deve, pois, integrar o pensamento à realidade. Daà a necessidade de adentrarmos no Pragmatismo, visto como um método de esclarecer nossos conceitos. Partimos, então, da concepção processual de pensamento e chegamos ao Pragmatismo, o método de esclarecer nossas crenças, integrando, assim, pensamento e realidade.
This article approaches the notion of meaning in the doctrine of C. S. Peirce. With that approach we try to show that meaning, for Peirce, while a notion based upon the triadic conception of sign, doesn’t correspond to the doctrines considered as nominalistic, such as the denotative and behaviorist: it is eminently realist. A realist notion must, therefore, integrate thought with reality. Thus, our need to penetrate into the Pragmatism, seen as a method of clarifying our concepts. We begin then from the procedural conception of thought, and reach the Pragmatism, the method of clarifying our beliefs, thus, integrating thought with reality.
