O objetivo desse trabalho é apresentar algumas reflexões sobre minha tradução de um poema de William Blake. Usarei por corpus de análise e tradução o poema Uma canção de liberdade, texto que conclui Marriage of heaven and hell. Minha reflexão, além de aludir aos crÃticos de Blake, em especial à queles que se debruçaram especificamente sobre esse poema, como Northrop Frye, June Singer, David Erdman, Foster Damon, G. E. Bentley e Andréa Lima Alves, também problematizará algumas questões linguÃsticas e interpretativas que auxiliaram na minha tradução, sendo a mais marcante a observação e análise das lâminas originais do poema. O artigo conclui com a reprodução das lâminas originais e com a tradução do poema para o português brasileiro.
The aim of this paper is to present some reflections about the translation of a poem by William Blake. I will use as analytical and translational corpus the illuminated poem A Song of Liberty, text considered an attachment of Marriage of heaven and hell, although it was composed before it. My reflection, besides the observation of some critics of Blake, in particular those that specifically address this poem, as Northrop Frye, June Singer, David Erdman, Foster Damon, G. E. Bentley and Andréa Lima Alves, also will discuss relevant analysis that helped in my translation exercise. The most striking of them was the observation of the original illuminated designs of Blake’s poem, which I reproduce in the end of my text, besides the translation of the poem into Brazilian Portuguese.
