In this paper the meaning that the students of Secondary Education (17 years of age) attach to the correlation and regression after having received instruction on this topic, is characterized. The paper begins with a revision of related literature, them the theoretical framework, the sample and the questionnaire are described. The questionnaire contains 12 items showing representative elements of meaning on bidimensional distributions, correlation, covariance and regression. The difficulties and the correct and erroneous answers of the students are analyzed and discussed, some of them are related to referred literature. We finalize with a summary and the conclusions of the findings, useful results to plan teaching and to begin with other research.
En el presente trabajo se caracteriza el significado que los estudiantes de Educación Secundaria (17 años de edad) dan a la correlación y regresión después de haber recibido instrucción sobre este tema. Se comienza por una revisión de la literatura relacionada, se describe el marco teórico, la muestra y el cuestionario, donde se han propuesto 12 ítems que contienen elementos de significado representativos sobre distribuciones bidimensionales, correlación, covarianza y regresión. Se analizan y discuten las dificultades encontradas y las respuestas correctas y erróneas de los estudiantes, relacionándolas, en su caso, con la literatura referida. Se finaliza con un resumen y conclusiones de los resultados encontrados, útiles, a nuestro entender para planificar la enseñanza y realizar otras investigaciones.
