O artigo investiga como ocorre o processo de ensino e aprendizagem dos sujeitos na Educação a Distância (EaD) e as influências da comunicação e da mediação estabelecidas entre professor-tutor e aluno. Apresenta uma reflexão acerca da produção docente e a relação entre o professor-tutor e o aluno, a fim de compreender como ocorrem os processos de comunicação e aprendizado no ambiente virtual. Discute os obstáculos encontrados neste meio para superar os desafios cotidianos. Analisa a prática do professor-tutor e quais são os saberes necessários à sua atuação mediada por tecnologias da informação e comunicação. Utiliza a metodologia de abordagem qualitativa para analisar dados que foram coletados por meio de um questionário com questões estruturadas abertas e fechadas, disponibilizado por meio do Google Formulários enviado pelo WhatsApp e Messenger para alunos de diversos cursos em EaD de uma Instituição de Ensino Superior. O estudo está fundamentado em Bacich (2015), Barros e Choti (2014), Coll e Monereo (2010), Cortelazzo (2013), Gabriel (2013), Litto e Mattar (2017) e Martino (2017). Os resultados da pesquisa indicam a necessidade de investir na comunicação, no diálogo, no exercício da empatia e na formação do professor-tutor como agente mediador do processo de ensino e aprendizagem do aluno EaD. Compreende-se ser necessário que a comunicação entre eles ocorra de modo eficaz para que se eleve a qualidade do processo de ensino e aprendizagem.

The article investigates how the teaching and learning process of the subjects in distance
education occurs and the influence of communication and mediation established between
teacher-tutor and student. It presents a reflection about the teaching production and the
relationship between the teacher-tutor and the student, in order to understand how the
processes of communication and learning in the virtual environment occur. Discusses the
obstacles encountered in this environment to overcome everyday challenges. It analyzes
the practice of the teacher-tutor and what are the knowledges necessary for its action
mediated by information and communication technologies. It uses the methodology of
qualitative approach to analyze data that was collected through a questionnaire with
structured questions open and closed, made available through Google Forms sent by
WhatsApp and Messenger to students of several courses in EaD of a Higher Education
Institution. The study is based on Bacich (2015), Barros and Choti (2014), Coll and Monereo
(2010), Cortelazzo (2013), Gabriel (2013), Litto and Mattar (2017) and Martino (2017). The
research results indicate the need to invest in communication, in dialogue, in the exercise
of empathy and in the formation of the teacher-tutor as mediator of the teaching and
learning process of the Distance Education student. It is understood that communication
between them must take place in an effective way in order to raise the quality of the
teaching and learning process.
