O artigo analisa as narrativas da imprensa brasileira sobre a ação de organizações criminais nas dinâmicas comunitárias durante a pandemia da Covid-19, em comparação ao cená- rio anterior. Foram estudados jornais de grande circulação publicados em três estados: Minas Gerais, São Paulo e Rio de Janeiro. Em geral, os relatos indicaram para aspectos políticos nacionais, analisando pouco as dinâmicas estabelecidas nos espaços periféricos urbanos. Entretanto, ao discutir temas comunitários, os jornais enfocaram, em especial, o contexto do Rio de Janeiro, sempre de modo ambíguo. Indicaram que os grupos criminais devem ser foco do controle estatal. Simultaneamente, assinalaram que tais atores são importantes à manutenção da ordem comunitária durante a pandemia.
This article analyzes the narratives of the Brazilian press regarding the impact of criminal organizations on community dynamics during the first year of the Covid-19 pandemic, in comparison to the previous year. Major newspapers published in three states were scrutinized: Minas Gerais, São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. In general, the news framed federal political aspects, with little emphasis on the dynamics established in the peripheral urban spaces. However, when discussing community issues, newspapers focused, in particular, on the context of Rio de Janeiro, always in an ambiguous way. They indicated that criminal enterprises should be the aim of state control. At the same time, they pointed out that such groups are important for maintaining community order during the pandemic.
