O presente artigo traz uma proposta de literatura comparada, em que pesem as aproximações e os afastamentos entre Euclides e todos os intelectuais cariocas e fluminenses que contribuíam para a viragem cultural (pré-) modernista, em finais de século XIX e início do século XX. Através de um passeio pela Ouvidor de Machado de Assis e pelos becos da Lapa de Lima Barreto, o texto visa a situar Euclides neste rescaldo intelectual carioca, que foi responsável direto pelas manifestações que mais tarde se fariam na Semana da Arte Moderna paulistana.
The present article brings the proposal of a comparative literature in which proximities and withdrawings between Euclides and all the other intellectuals from Rio de Janeiro city and state who contributed to the (pre) modernist cultural turn by the end of the XIX century and beginnings of the XX are taken into account. It aims at placing Euclides in the carioca intellectual scene by means of a tour through Machado de Assis’ Ouvidor Street and Lima Barreto’s Lapa alleys. This scenery was directly responsible for the manifestations which occurred later in Sao Paulo Modern Art Week (Semana da Arte Moderna paulistana).
