This paper aims at reporting results of a research work using a sample of computerised parallel corpora which consists of an original English text and its two translations into Brazilian-Portuguese. The main purpose of the paper is to identify the general tendency in this sample of translated Brazilian-Portuguese texts to “simplification or disambiguation” and “explicitation”, two of the features pointed at in Baker (1993, 1996).
