In this article I offer a study of the inaugural lecture with which Joseph Ratzinger began his professorship at the University of Bonn, The God of Faith and the God of the Philosophers, in order to shed light on the understanding of philosophy that is presupposed in the text. I argue that in it, unlike what the author does in other texts, philosophy is understood as an activity essentially oriented to the knowledge of ontological, universal and rational truth, and that, precisely, these characteristics foster an alliance between philosophy and the incipient Christian faith.

En este artículo ofrezco un estudio de la lección inaugural con la que Joseph Ratzinger inició su cátedra en la Universidad de Bonn, El Dios de la fe y el Dios de los filósofos, con la intención de sacar a la luz la comprensión de la filosofía que está presupuesta en el texto. Sostengo que en ella, a diferencia de lo que el autor hace en otros textos, la filosofía se entiende como una actividad esencialmente orientada al conocimiento de la verdad ontológica, universal y racional, y que son precisamente esas características las que fomentan una alianza entre la filosofía y la fe cristiana naciente.
