Resumos Cadastrados

Resumo Inglês:

The purpose of this article is to carry out some brief reflection on how figurative language in the ancient and modern world explains the human condition and can favor its development. Man has a natural desire to know and, in order to develop this knowledge, art, philosophy and language are fundamental in the process. Among the ancient world, the mastery of language or eloquence was considered a divine gift, an election of the gods for certain individuals. This research will analyze how two philosophers, Aristotle and Schiller, used figurative language; authors who are distant in time were chosen to point out what language features each one used during their time, with which purpose they used rhetoric, myth, metaphor, tragedy and poetry to express their anthropological vision, to exhort, persuade and transcend man in their time, and which are the similarities and differences between them concerning language.

Keywords: Language. Myth. Metaphor. Tragedy. Aristotle. Schiller
