Este artigo reflete sobre o conceito de justiça no pensamento de Santo Agostinho. Apresenta o conceito agostiniano da justiça absoluta identificado com o Bem Supremo, que a torna eterna e imutável. Por meio de uma breve exposição da Controvérsia Maniqueísta, define-se o significado do bem e do mal no pensamento agostiniano, sendo ressaltado que o direcionamento da vontade dos homens na busca da fruição daquilo que é inferior a Deus e à própria alma reveste a justiça humana de um valor relativo, temporal e mutável. O caminho apontado por Santo Agostinho para os homens se aproximarem da justiça absoluta é a justiça cristã.
This article reflects on the concept of justice in St. Augustine’s thought. It presents the Augustinian concept of absolute justice identified with the Supreme Good, that makes it eternal and unchanging. By a brief exposition of the Manichaean Controversy, the article defines the meaning of good and evil in the Augustinian thought. It also highlights that when men turn their will to fruition of what is inferior to God and to the soul itself, it overlays human justice with a relative, temporal and mutable value. The only way men can approach the absolute justice, according to St. Augustine, is by Christian justice.
