Ao longo da história da humanidade, a palavra “simetria” possuiu diferentes significados em diferentes períodos. Apresentamos, neste artigo, um estudo que revela três acepções distintas para esta palavra, passando por Euclides, Vitruvius, Legendre e culminando com o conceito moderno como é atualmente usando em áreas como Física, Química, Biologia e a própria Matemática. Apresentamos também, ao final, algumas implicações deste estudo no campo educacional.
Through human history, the word symmetry has had different meanings in different periods. We present, in this article, a study that reveals three distinct meanings for this word, passing through Euclid, Vitruvius, Legendre and culminating with the modern concept as it is currently used in areas such as Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics itself. We also present, in the end, some implications of this study in the educational field.
