Este artigo faz parte de uma pesquisa já concluÃda. Tem por objetivo apresentar informações
sobre a oferta de ensino primário e secundário privado em Pelotas, municÃpio localizado
ao Sul do Rio Grande do Sul. A investigação abrange o perÃodo compreendido entre
os anos de 1875 a 1910 e foi realizada por meio do conteúdo de propagandas impressas,
divulgadas em diferentes periódicos que circularam na cidade. A investigação dá indicativos
de como ocorreu a organização do ensino privado na virada do século XIX para o XX
focando especificamente o ensino primário e secundário, bem como as suas constituições
curriculares. Observa-se, assim, que tanto para o ensino secundário, como para o primário,
os resultados dos alunos eram uma garantia da qualidade da instituição de ensino,
fato amplamente explorado nos anúncios. Nesta pesquisa as propagandas fazem emergir,
portanto, aspectos sobre a atuação do ensino privado em um momento de constituição
de um sistema organizado – que aos poucos saÃa das casas, como uma prática de ensino
privado – para aos poucos serem formadas as primeiras escolas privadas. Não tem como
pretensão esgotar as múltiplas leituras que possam ser feitas sobre a temática, mas foca o
olhar para o mercado da educação, contribuindo, assim, com o campo investigado.
This paper is part of a research that was already completed. It aims to present some information
about private elementary and secondary schools offer in the municipality of
Pelotas, Rio Grande do Sul State. The survey covers the period from 1875 to 1910. It was
conducted using institutional advertising content published in the several newspapers that
were circulating in the municipality by that time. The survey indicates how private school
organization occurred at the turn of 19th to the 20th century, focusing specifically on primary
and secondary schools, as well as on their curricula frameworks. We can notice that
both for secondary and for elementary education, the students’ outcomes worked as quality
assurance of the educational institution. This fact was widely exploited in the advertisements.
In this survey the advertisements make possible the emergence of aspects about
private education performance in the constitutional moment of an organized system that
