Com base em um conceito pré-estabelecido de expressão idiomática, fruto de rigorosa investigação científica no âmbito da Lexicologia, propôs-se analisar idiomatismos em inglês que trazem nomes de animais em ao menos um de seus itens lexicais constitutivos. Assim, observamos a grande diversidade estrutural pela qual os idiomatismos são representados na língua inglesa e cotejamo-os com as expressões correspondentes em português, sobretudo em peculiaridades que concernem à tipologia de tradução.
Based on a pre-established concept of idiom, which comes from an accurate scientific research in the field of Lexicology, our proposal is to analyze idioms in English which have a name of an aninal in at least one of theirs lexical items. Thus, we have noticed a great structural diversity through which idioms are represented in English language and we have also compared them with the correspondent idioms in Portuguese, especially in peculiarities related to the type of translation.
