Nos últimos anos, a pesquisa bíblica tem debruçado-se sobre o tema da utilização dos textos veterotestamentários pelo Apocalipse, pois o recurso ao patrimônio do Antigo Testamento pelo autor do Apocalipse não se restringe à mera citação. De fato, há uma aplicação daquele conteúdo no texto neotestamentário com a intenção de construir um novo conhecimento, ou seja, o autor parece desejar oferecer ao elemento antigo uma compreensão totalmente nova e aprofundada. Por outro lado, poder-se-ia ainda, cogitar a vontade deliberada de proporcionar contatos intertextuais que imputariam ao novo texto uma complexidade elevada.

In recent years, biblical research has leaned up on the subject of use of Old Testament texts by Revelation, since the use of the heritage of the Old Testament by the author of Revelation is not restricted to mere quotation. In fact, there is an application of that content in the New Testament text with the intention to build a new knowledge, that is, the author seems to want to offer the old element a whole new and deeper understanding. On the other hand, one could also entertain the deliberate will to provide intertextual contacts granting the new text a high complexity.
