Esse artigo pretende apresentar a falta de correspondência entre o termo grego psykhé e o termo hebraico néphesh. O primeiro é um dos mais importantes conceitos da cultura helênica, e o segundo corresponde a um dos principais vocábulos da antropologia do Antigo Testamento. A tradução de néphesh por psykhé, na Septuaginta, induz à compreensão equivocada de que ambos encerram a noção de um elemento humano imaterial oposto ao corpo material. Esse significado, porém, só se aplica, de fato, ao termo grego.

This paper intends to show the lack of correspondence between the Greek word psyche and the Hebrew nephesh. The first is one of the most important concepts of the Hellenic culture and the second corresponds to one of the main words of the anthropology of the Old Testament. A translation of nephesh into psyche in the Septuagint induces to misunderstandings that both mean a human immaterial element opposite to an immaterial body. This meaning, however, only applies, in fact, to the Greek word.
