Detentoras de valores civilizatórios que expressam sua importância para a sociedade brasileira como um todo, busca-se discutir, neste artigo, as religiões de matrizes africanas como um contínuo com o continente africano. Esse cenário nos permitiu abordar, a partir do discurso de adeptos da região de Marabá, no estado do Pará, a necessidade de essas religiões ocuparem espaços públicos e de controle social para o avanço da igualdade racial. Para tanto, utiliza-se da história oral no registro das falas de seus participantes e da pesquisa participante pela articulação acadêmica e política. O trabalho analisa as diferentes formas de representação e identidade religiosas dialogando com a construção de políticas públicas e as formas de atuação das quais a população negra se utiliza para manter sua relação com a ancestralidade africana pelas comunidades tradicionais de terreiros, evidenciando a necessidade de construir nos espaços públicos outras narrativas.

Holders of civilizing values that express their importance to Brazilian society as a whole, this article seeks to discuss African-based religions as a continuum with the African continent. This scenario allowed us to approach, from the speech of followers from the region of Marabá, in the state of Pará, the need for these religions to occupy public and social control spaces for the advancement of racial equality. For this purpose, it is used oral history to record the speeches of its participants and participant research through academic and political articulation. The work analyzes the different forms of religious representation and identity, dialoguing with the construction of public policies and the ways of action the black population uses in order to maintain its relationship with African ancestry through traditional communities of “terreiros”, highlighting the need to build other narratives in public spaces.
