Este artigo apresenta uma revisão da bibliografia sobre a condição dos idosos sujeitos ao encarceramento. O levantamento das publicações sobre o tema foi realizado na primeira quinzena de janeiro de 2020 a partir de cinco descritores: envelhecimento, idoso cárcere, prisão e saúde. Foram encontrados 408 trabalhos referentes aos últimos 10 anos nas bases de dados da Biblioteca Virtual da Saúde: Lilacs, SciELO, Medline e Google Acadêmico. De 408 estudos, oito preencheram os critérios de inclusão. Foi constatado que o sistema prisional é um ambiente insalubre e que o idoso, em decorrência das dificuldades inerentes à idade, tem uma condição física e psicológica insatisfatória, sendo necessário acompanhá-lo no sistema carcerário, sobretudo no que diz respeito à sua saúde mental. Cumpre aprofundar os estudos sobre o tema tendo em vista o planejamento e a execução de políticas públicas que atendam melhor essa população.
This article presents a review of the bibliography on the condition of the elderly subject to incarceration. The survey of publications on the topic was carried out in the first half of January 2020 from five descriptors: aging, elderly, prison, prison and health. 408 papers were found for the last 10 years in the Virtual Health Library databases: Lilacs, SciELO, Medline and Google Scholar. Of 408 studies, eight met the inclusion criteria. It was found that the prison system is an unhealthy environment and that the elderly, due to the difficulties inherent to age, have an unsatisfactory physical and psychological condition, being necessary to accompany them in the prison system, especially with regard to their mental health. It is necessary to deepen the studies on the theme in view of the planning and execution of public policies that better serve this population.
