A laicidade do Estado é um tema muito sensível e complexo, tendo em vista estar ligado intimamente com a crença e a descrença religiosa de cada ser humano, gerando discussão nos âmbitos político e social. Tratar dessa neutralidade do Estado é tratar da história humana. Este artigo traz em seu enredo uma proposta de interpretação do princípio da laicidade, bem como da proteção jurídico-constitucional estabelecida à liberdade religiosa, baseando-se na dignidade da pessoa humana. Na esteira da liberdade, está a liberdade religiosa, intimamente conectada à liberdade de consciência, que possibilita a qualquer pessoa ser adepta a qualquer religião ou não, bem como professar sua crença nessa religião ou também sua descrença. Na seara da igualdade, está a neutralidade confessional do Estado, para que haja isonomia com toda a sociedade.

The laicity/laicitè* of the state is a sensitive and complex theme, because is intimately connected with the religious belief and disbelief of every human been, producing a discussion in the political and social spheres. To treat this neutrality of the State is to deal with human history. This article brings in yours plot a proposal for interpretation of the principle of laicity, as well as the legal-constitutional protection established to religious freedom, based on the dignity of the human person. In the wake of freedom, there is religious freedom, intimately connected to freedom of conscience, which enables anyone to be adept at any religion or not, as well as to profess their belief in this religion or also their unbelief. In the area of equality, there is the confessional neutrality of the State, so that there is equality with all society.
