A aproximação entre Psicologia e Direito ocorreu inicialmente no campo do Direito Penal, exigindo-se desde então discussões sobre a intersecção destes saberes. Buscou-se identifi car as atividades
realizadas pelos psicólogos que atuam em penitenciárias, visando conhecer as contribuições e as dificuldades desta função, no exercício dos procedimentos de execução penal. Trata-se de uma pesquisa de caráter exploratório e de referencial qualitativo, a partir de uma amostra composta por técnicos de três distintas penitenciárias da região central do estado de São Paulo. Durante a realização do estudo, nove profissionais integravam o quadro destas unidades, mas apenas cinco aceitaram participar. Os profissionais atribuem à Psicologia penitenciária o papel de diminuir o sofrimento psíquico e proporcionar um espaço que promova a qualidade de vida e a reintegração dos indivíduos. No entanto, os discursos indicam que mesmo após os debates em torno da atuação dos psicólogos no âmbito prisional ainda predomina a prática de elaboração de laudos e se prioriza a segurança em detrimento da ressocialização, impedindo os profi ssionais de oferecer contribuições mais signifi cativas ao crescimento dos reeducandos. Conclui-se que apesar dos avanços nas legislações e resoluções da categoria, os profissionais ainda encontram difi culdade para atuar de forma mais efetiva e promover a reintegração social.

The approach between Psychology and Law initially occurred in the fi eld of Penal Law and since this gathering, discussions on the inter-section of this knowledge became necessary. This study sought to identify the activities carried out by psychologists who work in prisons, aiming to know the contributions and the diffi culties of this function, in the exercise of penal enforcement proceedings. This is an exploratory qualitative research and reference, from a sample of technicians in three different penitentiaries in the central region of São Paulo. During the study, nine professionals were part of the frame of these units, but only five agreed to participate. Professionals attribute to penitentiary Psychology the role of reducing psychological distress and provide a space that promotes quality of life and reintegration of individuals. However, the speeches show that even after the debate on the role of psychologists in the prison context still dominates the practice of preparing valuation reports and gives priority to security at the expense of rehabilitation, preventing professionals to offer more signifi cant contributions to the growth of reeducations. It concludes that despite advances in the laws and resolutions of the category, professionals still face diffi culties to act more effectively to and promote social reintegration.
