O artigo trata da cerimônia da troca de indumentária da imagem de orago da igreja de Nossa Senhora da Glória do Outeiro do Rio de Janeiro. Para maior compreensão do tema foi necessário contextualizá-lo como um rito praticado por uma elite da sociedade fluminense, remontando a costumes europeus, passando pelo Sínodo da Bahia, realizado no ano de 1707, em conformidade com as determinações tridentinas. O ritual que acontece a cada 5 de agosto, conta com a participação dos confrades da Imperial Irmandade da Glória do Outeiro, iniciando com a chamada das Aias que se encontram na sacristia e que deverão aproximar-se da referida imagem para a retirada e substituição da indumentária. Do corpo ou nave da igreja, os confrades participam do evento recitando o rosário e cantando hinos em honra da Virgem. Após a reinstalação da imagem, os confrades sobem para o presbitério e as confreiras ocupam as primeiras fileiras de cadeiras dispostas na nave da igreja. O rito é concluído com a celebração da Eucaristia.
The article deals with the ceremony of changing the clothing of the main statue in the church of Nossa Senhora da Glória do Outeiro (Our Lady of Glory of the Outeiro) in Rio de Janeiro. For a better understanding of the theme, it was necessary to contextualize it as a rite practiced by an elite of Fluminense society, going back to European habits, passing through the Synod of Bahia, held in 1707, in accordance with the Tridentine determinations. The ritual, that takes place in every 5th of August, counts on the participation of the confreres of the Imperial Brotherhood of Glory of the Outeiro, starting with the call of the Maids who are in the sacristy and who should approach the statue for the removal and replacement of the clothing. From the body, or nave of the church, the confreres participate in the event, reciting the rosary and singing hymns in honour to the Virgin. After the sculpture has been reinstalled, the male confreres go up to the presbytery and the female ones occupy the first rows of chairs arranged in the church nave. The rite is concluded with the celebration of the Eucharist.
