No Brasil Oitocentista, as Princesas Isabel e Leopoldina tornaram-se as únicas herdeiras do Trono e da Coroa do Brasil. Este estudo objetivou
analisar a formação das Princesas tendo como destaque a figura do Imperador D. Pedro II, pai das meninas. A pesquisa histórico-documental teve como principal fonte as cartas das Princesas. Concluiu-se que as Princesas foram educadas com disciplinas voltadas para as “ciências e letras e para as “prendas domésticasâ€. Foram de grande relevância a atuação da preceptora e do Imperador, este como um verdadeiro pai/mestre empenhado em transformar as filhas em futuras soberanas.
In nineteenth-century Brazil, the Princesses Elizabeth and Leopoldina became the only heir to the Throne and Crown of Brazil. This study aimed to analyze the formation of the Princesses, by highlighting the figure of the Emperor D. Pedro II, the girls' father. The historical and documentary research had the Princesses letters as the main source of it. It was concluded that the Princesses were educated with disciplines aimed at the "arts and sciences and the" housewives ". They were of great importance to the tutor’s performance and in the role of Emperor’s governess, this last one as a true parent / teacher engaged in turning their daughters into future sovereign.
